I’d like to let my cat out for some sunshine and fresh air?

Besides letting him run free or putting a harness on him, is there a good way to do this.
I have seen something called a “cat walk” which is a mesh tunnel type apparatus but cha-ching $$$.
How do you let your kitty out without letting him out-out?
